JWT stands for JSON Web Token. It is commonly used to authenticate users in web applications and APIs.
After a user successfully logs in, the server can generate a signed token. The client sends that token with future API requests, usually through the Authorization header.
The server validates the token before allowing access to protected resources.
A JWT typically contains a header, payload, and signature. Sensitive information such as passwords should never be stored inside the JWT payload.
JWT authentication is frequently used with frameworks such as Spring Security.
